Publishing from Beyond Cell Coverage
Blue Hat Travel was created as a home for wilderness journals, escorted dive trips, travel planning, photography, and real-world adventure stories. One of the central goals was allowing friends and family to follow extended backcountry trips through areas where conventional internet and cellular service are unavailable.
A Custom Garmin-to-WordPress Workflow
We developed a custom publishing workflow that transforms dispatches sent through Garmin Messenger Plus into WordPress posts. Using a satellite connection, travelers can send an update containing a message, photograph, and location information from deep within the backcountry.
The relay processes the incoming dispatch and creates a consistently formatted journal entry with the message, coordinates, altitude, and a link to the location on a map. Posts are organized within a dedicated Garmin Updates section, allowing readers to follow the trip chronologically from anywhere.
A Website Built Around Real Adventures
The finished platform combines remote expedition journals with hosted dive trips, travel advising, recommended destinations, and personal stories. The Garmin publishing system gives Blue Hat Travel something particularly distinctive: the ability to share an adventure while it is still happening, even from well beyond normal communication coverage.
